Twitter!

I have been using Twitter for a few years now, when I originally signed up for it, it was just for the social networking. I used it to share photos, follow interesting people, I got a lot of news off of it, and it is where all of the breaking sports news happens! So I really enjoy Twitter, but I never really used it for educational purposes. But through this class and after some more reading and research, I am starting to see how it could be very beneficial. For one thing, it is a great way to network with fellow educators and it is great for sharing articles, and just chatting. It is also a great place to get new ideas for me to try and use in my classroom, and it is fairly easy to find these ideas. Whether it is from following certain people or just searching through hashtags. There are thousands of ideas out there you just gotta find them! So while my original intentions for Twitter were just for entertainment and news, it has grown to being a useful resource for my career!

  1. Tim, some great points! I am new to the Twitter world, myself, so I must say that I have only used Twitter for educational purposes. I can definitely see the merit in having a Twitter account though, because I have already gained information and ideas from different teachers, schools, and accounts from around the world! I wonder, do you think you will use Twitter with your students? I am getting used to this idea, and still warming up to it, but I think incorporating modern research tools into the classroom is a great way for students to become engaged and enthralled in a topic.

  2. I think I will definitely use twitter with my students. The main thing I would use it for would be for reminders and for promoting school events. So if there was a big varsity basketball game for example, I could send out a tweet telling everyone to come support the team. It would also be useful for keeping parents informed of whats going on, instead of sending out hundreds of emails, I can send out one tweet and they can all see it.
